Jan. 21, 1924-March 18, 2008

Lucille Thomas, 84, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and formerly of Boone, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in Scottsdale. Her body has been cremated and a memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone. Burial of her cremains will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.

Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, friends may call from 8 a.m. to the time of service.

Lucille Thomas was born Jan. 21, 1924, northwest of Gilbert in Harrison Township in Boone County, the daughter of Wesley and Odellia (Wirth) Nelson. She graduated from Story City High School in 1942. She married Donald P. Thomas May 7, 1949, at Saint's Peter and Paul Catholic Church, northwest of Gilbert. The couple divorced in 1959. From 1969 to 1989, she worked as a bartender at the former O'Brien's Lounge in Boone. She retired in 1989.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Thomas, of Quincy, Ill., and Donald (Jeanette) Thomas, of Indianola; one daughter, Donna (Bob) Jellish, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Mona Ivis and Velma (Duane) Bricker, all of Boone; three grandchildren, Jeremy Jellish, Adam Thomas, and Staci Harris; two step-grandchildren, Andy and Brandon; four great-grandchildren, Logan Thomas, Seth Thomas, Austin Tolan and Ethan Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Nelson; two sisters, Margaret "Peg" Johnson and Wanda Schroeder; and one daughter-in-law, Pamela Thomas.
