Juanita Christina Parker, 82, of Ames, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at home. Funeral services are pending with Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

THE AMES TRIBUNE, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, August 7, 2008.

Juanita Christina Parker, 82, of Ames died Tuesday, Aug. 5, at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada, with the Rev. Scott Grotewold officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services in Nevada.

Juanita Christina Parker was born Dec. 28, 1925, in rural Nevada, to Walter and Alvira (Elliott) Larson. She was a graduate of East High School in Des Moines. She married Richard Parker Aug. 29, 1947, in Nevada. During their marriage, they resided in Cedar Falls, Wauwatosa, Wis., Glenview, Ill., and moved to Ames in 1993. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She enjoyed taking care of her family and home, traveling with her husband, preparing for holidays, gardening and shopping. She was a bright light in her family's lives. She was a member of the Collegiate United Methodist Church-Wesley Foundation in Ames.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Parker, of Ames; one son, Randall (Pat) Parker, of Ames; one daughter, Tamara (Kelly) Ward, of Davidsonville, Md.; three grandchildren, Alexander and Benjamin Ward and Courtney (Brandon) Dunmire; one great-grandson, Damian Dunmire; two sisters, Mary Overton and Charlotte Holaday, both of Des Moines; one sister-in-law, Lauretta (Del) Eggers, of Iowa City; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial fund has been established in Juanita's name for the American Heart Association or Cancer Research.
