Luther S. Holland, 78, of McCallsburg, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at home. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.
Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of arrangements.

Sept. 26, 1929-Aug. 4, 2008Luther S. Holland, 78, of McCallsburg, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at home after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Burial will be in Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg followed by lunch in the church basement.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.
Luther S. Holland was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Story County, to Samuel and Amanda (Erickson) Holland. He attended McCallsburg School and, after receiving a GED, graduated with his daughter, Ricki, in 1970.
He was a lifelong resident of McCallsburg. He bought hogs for L.G. Ellingson and tried other short-term jobs. In 1961, he purchased his garage from Earl Hanson. He worked on heavy machinery, buses and racecars. Little children loved to hang out there.
He was a charter Lion's Club member, served as a first responder, volunteer fireman and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where he served as president and trustee.
Lue was so content to climb into his racecar for racing for years and later for "Ole Time" racing. He made many fond memories and friends from all over the U.S.
He married Ione (Jacobson) on July 17, 1949, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ione; three daughters, Ricki (Gary) Meimann, Lou Ann (Rob) Williams, and Mary Jo; one son, Jim (Jan) Holland; grandchildren, Carrie, Jenny, Jami, Jeremy, Jim, John, Ellie, Sam and Cori; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lexi, Shalynn, Katelynn, Tony, Noah, Lucas and Hanah; and one brother, Truman (Marv) Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice of Marshalltown.
