Funeral services for Ethel Hoberland were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 9, 1966 in the Evangelical United Brethren church in Zearing, with Rev. Richard Miller officiating. Burial was in the Zearing cemetery. Brouhard Funeral home was in charge of services.

Casket bearers were Lester Hambly, Lloyd Hambly, Duwayne Schmoll, Wilbur Schmoll, Lewis Deal and Delos Deal.

Mrs. Carl Blattel and Mrs. Everette Johnson cared for the flowers.

Ethel Gertrude Deal Hoberland, the daughter of Milton and Effie Trego Deal was born April 17, 1891, near Zearing, Iowa and passed away from this life at the Story County Hospital, Nevada, Iowa after a short illness on August 7, 1966.

Mrs. Hoberland grew up in the Zearing community and attended country school. She was united in marriage to John Hoberland on June 10, 1908. To this union were born two children, a daughter Verda and a son Lowell. She was an active member of the Bethel Evangelical United Brethren Church joining it on April 28, 1907, participating in the life of the church.

She had a forty year pin as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had just recently completed, the giving of 500 Hours as a "Lady in Blue" at the Marshalltown Veterans Hospital.

Mrs. Hoberland was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother Otto Deal. She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Verda) Oaks of Cashton, Wisconsin, her son Lowell of Zearing, two sisters, Mrs. Medora Clark of Glendale, California, and Mrs. Lila Hambly of Waterloo, Iowa; two brothers, Orel Deal of Elsinore, Calif. and Leon Deal, Iowa Falls; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her own children, she took into her home, the children of her brother and daughter and reared them as her own children and grandchildren.
