Dr. Albert D. King, 68, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw, N.Y. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main St., in Warsaw, N.Y. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home, with Dr. Gary Jones, pastor of the Farmington Avenue Baptist Church in West Hartford, Conn., officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Elmwood Cemetery in Pike.

Albert D. King was born Aug. 14, 1939, in Fillmore, N.Y., the son of the late Charles A. and Doris A. (Dunning) King. Albert was a 1957 graduate of Letchworth Central School, where he was the first recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award. He earned a bachelor's degree in music from Houghton College and went on to the University of Illinois to earn his master's degree in child development. He taught for two years at Oregon State and later taught at Iowa State University, where he received his Ph.D. in statistics and research methodology. He then retired in 1997 after 23 years of teaching there. He spent the last 11 years in Pike, N.Y.

Albert was an accomplished composer and vocalist who was a positive driving force that touched many lives. Due to his charismatic personality, people bonded with him immediately. Albert was a fun loving guy and the life of any party. He dedicated his time and resources to two people in particular - Omer Balla and Christian Kemmerer - both were treated as sons.

Survivors include four sisters, Jennie Allbright, of Pike, N.Y., Mary Adamowich, of Plainville, Conn., Juliann King, of Manaus, Brazil, and Carol King, of Pike, N.Y.; two step-brothers, George (Caroline) Newcomb, of Michigan, and Ward (Hazel) Newcomb, of North Carolina; one step-sister; Arlene Nunnaly, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edmund King in 2008, and Charles King in 1991.
