Ruby Thacker, 72, of Huxley, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Soderstrum Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ruby Thacker, 72, of Huxley, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Slater United Methodist Church, with Pastor Emily Allen officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Slater United Methodist Church.

Ruby Thacker was born June 27, 1936, in Boone, to Benjamin and Muriel (Bracci) Thacker. She was a certified nursing assistant.

She enjoyed birds, especially hummingbirds, flower gardening and reading.

She is survived by three children, Lorna Thomas, Leona Bass and Bill Bass and his wife, Chris, all of Huxley; one brother, Stan Thacker, of Boone; eight grandchildren, Stacey, Brandey (Joe), Joshua, Heather (Jerry), Ashlee, Kacy, Ben and Emily; one great-granddaughter, Brianna; and dog, Buffy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ken; one sister, Judy; one daughter-in-law, Wendy; and one sister-in-law, Gloria.

Memorial funds may be directed to Ankeny Christian Academy for tuition support for Joshua Bass, Ruby's grandson, and sent to Bill Bass, 106 Porch Light Drive, Huxley, IA, 50124.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home of Slater is assisting the family with arrangements.
