Nov. 17, 1938-July 27, 2008

Rita Arlene Wirth Bielefeldt, 69, of Roland, died Sunday, July 27, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames after an 11-month battle with colon cancer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, at St. Patrick's Church in Nevada.

Rita was born Nov. 17, 1938, to Lawrence and Anna (Elsner) Wirth. She graduated from Gilbert High School in 1956. She worked at Carter Press for several years before marrying Donald Bielefeldt on April 30, 1960, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church outside Gilbert.

She took pleasure in the ordinary things of life. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She was an avid quilter and basket collector. She also loved to read and play cards. She never missed the monthly gathering of her eight siblings for an afternoon of card playing. Her greatest joys, however, were her grandchildren and supporting their activities.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; their children, Diane (Art) Beck, of Roland, Duane Bielefeldt, of Roland, Arlene (Matthew) Grebasch, of Ankeny, Denise (Doug) Sargent, of Roland, and Dee (John) Drummer, of State Center; grandchildren, Jessi Beck, Izzie Beck, Travis Sargent and Caitlyn Sargent; step-grandchildren, Jacob Drummer, Jennifer Drummer and her children, Derek, Lily, and Taylor; six sisters; two brothers; and 37 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be made to William R. Bliss Cancer Center or Israel Family Hospice House.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Roland is in charge of arrangements.
