THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, July 26, 2008.

Lois Maxine (Weir) Jay, 84, of Colo, died Wednesday, July 23, at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, at the Colo United Methodist Church, with Pastor Lewis Flanigan officiating. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.

Lois was born June 29, 1924, in Colo, to Orville Albert and Nellie Pearl (Jones) Weir. She was a 1941 graduate of Colo High School and attended the State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. On June 4, 1944, she married Lester Wilson Jay in Nevada. She was a longtime employee of Donnelley Marketing of Nevada. She was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Cloverleaf Club. She enjoyed bowling, card playing, reading and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children, Dennis (Kim) Jay, of Grand Island, Neb., and Dorothy (Fred) Cerka and Donna (John) Cerka, all of Colo; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Fern) Weir, of Iowa City, and Vern (Jan) Weir, of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Edna Ward, of Ankeny; and one sister-in-law, Jean Ann Weir, of Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on Feb. 2, 1987; granddaughter, Tina Jay; brother, Ray Weir; and brother-in-law, Wilford Ward.

A memorial fund has been established.
