THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, July 23, 2008.

Stephen Lee Wells, 67, died Friday, July 18, at his home in Ames after a short battle with cancer. There will be no funeral services. A graveside memorial will be at a later date.

Steve worked at Iowa State University for 33 years before he retired. He and Sharon enjoyed wintering in Texas and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his mother, LaVaughn Wells; his wife of 47 years, Sharon; and two children, Robert Wells (Beth Winborn) and Diane McCall, of Ankeny. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Shawn and Ryan Wells and Marissa McCall, as well as many relatives and good friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Prow and the nursing staff of Bliss Cancer Center as well as Homeward Hospice for their wonderful care. They also wish to thank all the many friends and family who supported them through Steve's illness.
