Kathryn Tyler, 93, of Ames, died Tuesday, July 22, at Green Hills in Ames. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Kathryn G. Tyler, wife of Wayne Tyler, of Ames, died Tuesday, July 22, at Green Hills Health Care Center of complications from a rare blood disorder. As per Kathryn's wishes, there will be no funeral. The family will greet friends from 4 to 5 p.m., with a memorial service at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 24, in the Sarah Barlow Lounge of Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, in Green Lawn Cemetery in Afton.

Kathryn was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Newton, to Philip and Eva (Shepard) Gerhart. She married Wayne Tyler in 1938 and lived at various times in Iowa, Maryland, New York and Chicago. After Wayne retired in 1978, they moved back home to Iowa to be close to their family. She enjoyed golfing and playing bridge.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; one son, Richard Tyler, daughter-in-law, Flora, granddaughter, Kathryn (Jeff) Weeks, and two great-grandchildren, Ben and Kelly Weeks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jane Anne; three sisters and three brothers.

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Emergency Residence in Ames.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
