Ruth Atkinson, 87, of Boone died of a heart ailment Saturday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone, with burial at Bass Point Cemetery there.

Mrs. Atkinson was born in Ogden and lived in the Colfax, Maxwell and Boone areas most of her life. She was a retired homemaker and had worked as a nurse's aide at Story County Hospital in Nevada and at Boone Home Health Care Services. She was a member of Marion Street United Methodist Church of Boone and enjoyed sewing, crafts and bingo.

Survivors include, two sons, Roger Charlet of Council Bluffs and Keith Charlet of Nevada; a daughter, Joyce Altes of Trenton, Mo.; two brothers, Truman Eckley of Portland, Ore., and Virgil Eckley of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday.
