Ronald Edward Altes, 79, of Collins died of heart failure at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines.

He was born to George and Mae (Hall) Altes at Mingo. He lived his lifetime in the Collins area. He married Lois Kimberly on Sept. 14, 1940, in Chillicothe, Mo. He was self employed as a farmer, retiring in 1975. He served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Lois of Collins; a son, Frederick Altes of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Joan Enfield of Collins; six granddaughters; and a brother, Garold Altes of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wendell Altes and Royald Altes.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Collins United Methodist church with the Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Burial was in the Graham Cemetery at Mingo. Cooper Funeral Home, Maxwell, handled arrangements.
