Leota Cairns, 87, of Maxwell died Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Mill Pond Care Center in Ankeny.

She was born June 5, 1916 near Maxwell to Charles and Olive Blanche (Harrison) Allen. She graduated from Maxwell High School and attended the Iowa School of Beauty. She married William "Bill" Cairns on Oct. 14, 1941 at Elkhart. Bill preceded her in death Dec. 16, 2003. She owned and operated the beauty shop in Maxwell for 12 years. She was a member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, canning, playing cards, dancing and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Charles (and Shirley) Cairns of Maxwell, Steve (and Debra) Cairns of Ankeny, and Dennis (and Michelle) Cairns of Maxwell; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ava Miller and Queen Elliott, both of Mill Pond, Ankeny.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Forest Allen and Francis Allen.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with Rev. Tom Lee officiating. Interment was in the Maxwell Cemetery.

Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell handled the arrangements.
