Bernice Maude (Vilmont) Allen, 94, of Nevada, died of cancer on Sunday, April 13, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada where she had been a resident since November of 1998.
She was born Nov. 17, 1908, in Wellsburg to Victor and Maude (Hopkins) Vilmont. She was a 1926 graduate of Eldora High School. She married George Eugene Allen on Feb. 14, 1930, in Eldora. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, DAR, Solomon Dean Chapter in Nevada, PEO, Chapter AM in Nevada, Mother's Club and United Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed reading, traveling and playing bridge. She had been a longtime resident of Nevada and also lived in Huntsville, Ala., from 1983-1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Marjorie (and Mayo) Willig of Stockton, Ill., and Dorothy (and James) Windham of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a son, James E. (and Dee) Allen of Indianola; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Herme of Cedar Falls.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George, in February of 1972, and a brother, Maurice Vilmont.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16, at Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada with Pastor Scott Milsom officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Central Presbyterian Church.
