THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, July 10, 2008.

Ramona "Moni" Jane Gustin was called to her heavenly home Monday, July 7, after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. She was 54 years old and ended her journey at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services are arranged by Boeke Funeral of Radcliffe, with visitation starting at noon and services at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City. After services, a celebration will be held in her honor at Carousel Lanes in Story City. A private burial will be at a later date.

Ramona was born July 2, 1954, to Gail and Margaret Hakes, of Clear Lake. She was the youngest of eight children, with four sisters and three brothers. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1972. She resided in Garden City from 1989 to 1999. She met her husband, Mitch, in 1999, when she worked as a waitress at Valhalla. They married July 14, 2001, and they resided in Story City until present. She was employed by Bethany Life Services working at Bethany Manor and Timberland Village as a dietary aide and homemaker since 1996.

She was known best for her warm, easy smile, kind and caring spirit and her love for her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, bowling, golf and playing with her chocolate lab, Maggie. She had a hole-in-one last summer, and that was the highlight of her year. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who will be missed by all.

Her memory is honored by her husband, Mitch; daughters and families, Carrie and Brad Tresemer, Jordan, Brock and CJ, all of Story City, and Amanda and Willy Strutz, Payton and Willow, all of Radcliffe; stepchildren, Amanda, of Lyons, Neb., Catherine Nicole, of Sioux City, and Rob, of Mapleton; her mother, Margaret Bergman, of Clear Lake; siblings, Vance Hakes, of Rock Falls, Juanita Sikora, of Antigo, Wis., Gayle Snow, of Clear Lake, Virginia Weiland, of Cedar Rapids, Bruce Hakes, of Aurora, Colo., Kathy Holck, of Clear Lake, and Harry Hakes, of Clear Lake, along with their families; and by the many friends and all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gail Hakes, and one nephew, Mark Weiland.

Memorials may be sent to the Gustin family at 207 Elm St in Story City.
