Leonardville, Kansas - Services for a former Story County resident, Clare Russell Sowers, 66, will be Thursday, March 6, 10:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Leonardville with burial in the Pomona, Kansas Cemetery. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sowers died Tuesday after a two and one-half year illness.
Born near Ames on Oct. 6, 1908 to George and Martha Sowers, he married Marian Anderson of Nevada on June 26, 1938. He was the editor of the Leonardville newspaper.
Survivors include his wife; five sons,: Michael in the Air Force in Calif., Roger of Hutchinson, Kans., James and Robert of Iola, Kan., and Merlin of Manhattan, Kan.; and two sisters: Mrs. Vere (Dorothy) Bielefeldt of Roland and Mrs. Frank (Jeanette) Peikert of State College, Pa.
