THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 10, 2008.

Wilferd F. Schmeling, 79, of Ames, died Saturday, June 7, at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames. Burial will be Tuesday, July 8, in Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Wilferd served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was electric meter supervisor for the city of Ames for 15 years before he retired in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Eldora; one daughter, Jean Christensen; and five grandchildren, Allissa, Matthew, William and Kristina Gilbert and Benjamin Christensen.

A time of visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Memorial Lutheran Church.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
