James Wayne Opheim, 29, of Ames, died Saturday June 7, in his sleep, due to an accidental overdose of alcohol. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens in Ames.

James was born Oct. 19, 1978, in Ames, to William and Cheryl Opheim. He was a graduate of Ames High School. He worked in restaurants in Portland, Ore., before returning to Ames in 2002, to be near family during his mother's illness. He had been employed by Burger King in Ames.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Marie Opheim; parents, Bill and Cheryl Opheim; and one brother, David Opheim, all of Ames; one sister, Sarah (Mike) Sauer and nephew, Thomas Sauer, all of Nevada; maternal grandmother, Darlene Bravick of Port Edwards, Wis.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca in 1991; paternal grandparents, Donald and Marie Opheim; and maternal grandfather, Wayne Bravick.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
