Stella Roberts, 85, of rural Ames, died Saturday, Oct. 3, at her home from cancer. She was born Nov. 24, 1912, in McCallsburg, to Askel and Margaret (Waage) Moklebust.
Roberts was a lifelong resident of the Ames area. She married George F. Roberts on Nov. 16, 1931, in Mt. Carroll, Ill. Roberts was a homemaker and worked in the Inspection Department of Bourne's for 20 years.
Roberts was a member of the Pleasant Grove church, where she played the organ and the piano for the church, the Happy Hour Club, the Senior Choir in Story City, and was an avid gardener and reader. She retired in 1977.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Roberts of Vermont; Richard Roberts of Sedona, Ariz., Gene Roberts of rural Ames and James Roberts of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter Georgia Pierson of Ames; a sister, Margaret Stewart of LaGrande; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren several step grand and step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 19, 1978; two brothers; one sister; and her parents.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Pleasant Grove Church with the Rev. Gus Gonnerman officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Church. Arrangements were made by Adams Funeral Homes of Ames.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Pleasant Grove Church, Hospice or the American Cancer Society.---from the Nevada Journal Oct. 8, 1998
