Mrs. Maria E. Sowers Story City Resident Died Saturday Evening

Story City, Aug. 19--Mrs. Maria E. Sowers, age 80 last March 30, died Saturday evening at 10:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John L. Anderson south of Story City. Mrs. Sowers fell and broke her hip in her room at the Old People's Home at Story City on June 20 and was taken to a hospital in Des Moines, where she was five weeks. She was moved to the home of her daughter about three weeks ago. She has been a member of the Old People's Home for about four years.
Mrs. Sowers was born in Chichasaw county in March, 1866, and came with her parents as a young girl to a farm three miles southeast of Stanhope. She and her husband then moved to a farm three miles northwest of Story City fifty-eight years ago. Her husband passed away seventeen years ago but she continued to live on the farm until entering the Old People's Home. The farm is now occupied by her son, Clarence and family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter and at 2:00 at the Grace Evangelical church in Story City. Rev. W. E. Ulrich will be in charge of the service. A short service will also be held in the Story City cemetery.
Survivng Mrs. Sowers are her daughter, Mrs. John L. Anderson and three sons, Earl Sowers of St. James, Minn., Wilbur Sowers and Clarence Sowers of Story City.
