Deanne Elizabeth Twedt (1942 - 1960)

Deanne Elizabeth Twedt, daughter of Samuel and Dorothy Twedt, was born on June 9, 1942 at the Story City Hospital. She died April 1, 1960 at Bradenton, Florida at the age of 17 years, 8 months, and 23 days. She was on a vacation trip to Florida with her grandparents when she accidently drowned. She was baptized and a communicant member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her parents, Samuel and Dorothy Twedt, two sisters, El Jean and Beth Ellen; and two brothers, Stanley and Steven; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Romayne Halsted of McCallsburg, Sam Twedt of Roland; and her great grandfather Will Halsted of Strawberry Point, as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Frank, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1945 and her grandmother, Mrs. Sam Twedt in 1958.
Deanne was a senior in the McCallsburg High School where she was an honor student. She had previously attended the Roland Community Schools before transferring to McCallsburg at the start of Junior High. She took an active part in all school affairs. She was a regular on the basketball team, sang in the glee club and mixed chorus, took an active part in the class plays and in all other activities. By having taken extra courses during the course of her High School career she had earned enough credits by midyear for graduation, but was carrying the regular courses again this semester. She had planned to enter college this fall and work toward becoming a medical lab techician.
Deanne was an active member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian Church where she was an assistant Sunday School teacher at the time of her death, and when not teaching she was a member of the Senior High Sunday School class. She was active in her church camps and conference programs.
She was also active in variious community affairs. She was active in her 4-H, serving as president of her local club, the McCallsburg Cloverettes. She was also an active member of the Story County 4-H Builders club for the older 4-H members. She had received many county honors on record books and exhibits. She was chosen last year as county health winner and was awarded a week at the State Health camp.
