Anna May Allan, 83, of Ames, died Wednesday, May 21, at the Israel Family Hospice House. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Anna May Allan, 84, died Wednesday, May 21, at Israel Family Hospice House. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23 at Adams Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.

She was born May 25, 1924, in Colo, to Emma and William Settle. She graduated from Colo High School in 1941 and received an R.N. degree from the Evangelical School of Nursing in Marshalltown in 1945. She was employed as a staff nurse at Mary Greeley Hospital and later was employed in private nursing.

She married Wendell Allan in 1947 in Ames. She became active in the family business of Allan Machine & Supply and Almaco until both retired. They made their home in Ames and Clear Lake. She was active in Ames Jaycettes, Beta Tau Delta Sorority, Mary Greeley Auxilliary, Red Cross Volunteer Nurses and was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

She was an avid supporter of ISU athletics, enjoyed sports, lake living, playing cards, knitting and especially caregiving for other people.

She is survived by one brother, Richard Settle, of Nevada; several nieces and nephews; and a longtime special friend, Earl "Buzz" Linn, of Huxley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; her parents; and one sister, Frances.

Memorials will go to the William R. Bliss Cancer Resource Center.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
