THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

Emmet L. Peter, 78, of Story City, died March 2, 2008 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church. Burial with military honors was in the Story City Cemetery.

Emmet was born Dec. 31, 1929 in Boone County to George and Helena (Rambeth) Peter. Emmet married Margaret Townswick on Dec. 14, 1952. He was a grain elevator manager at Story City, Lacona, Manson, Gilman and Waterloo. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and he and Margaret returned to Story City in 2005. He graduated from Story City High School in 1948 and was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Story City; two daughters, Dawn Essing (Bryon) of Pocahontas and Dixie Johnson of Prattville, Alabama; two sons, Tim and Terry, both of Iowa City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six brothers, Norman and Hubert of Boone, Jim of Vermillion, Ohio, Rich of Storm Lake, and Len and Melvin of Story City; and a sister, Laurina Hovde of Story City.

Emmet was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Charlie Johnson; a brother, Curtis and a sister, Elnora Gibson.

A memorial has been established in his name.
