Delores Gerene Erickson (1923-2008)

Delores Gerene Erickson, 85, formerly of Ames, died April 21, 2008 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, after a brief illness. Delores lived at Mallard Point in Cedar Falls for the past two years. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. Visitation was from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Delores was born Feb. 28, 1923 in rural Jewell, Iowa to Lewis and Olga (Blomdal) Alsager. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Jewell and confirmed her faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Delores attended the rural Rosendale County School and graduated from Story City High School in 1941. Delores worked at the Ankeny Ordinance Plant in the Portland, Oregon shipyards during World War II. During her long residence in Ames, Delores worked at Bourns and retired after 26 years.

She married her first husband, Edward Reinberger, Jr. in 1941. Delores and her second husband, Marvin Erickson, were married in 1981 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Ames, where she enjoyed doing volunteer work and participated in many church groups. Delores was also a member of the Ames Woman's Club, the Sons of Norway in Story City and the American Legion Auxiliary of McCallsburg. Delores lived life to the fullest and enjoyed bowling, traveling and spending time with her family. She was greatly loved as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She brought love and joy into the lives of all who were fortunate to know her.

Delores is survived by two daughters, Mary K. Terry of Waterloo and Peggy A. Messick of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Myers of Boynton Beach, Florida and Shirley Teggatz of Homestead, Iowa; brother-in-law Don Teggatz and many nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lloyd Alsager, Jennings Alsager; two sisters, Edith Davi and Carol Boren, and her husbands, Edward Reinberger and Marvin Erickson.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service was entrusted with the arrangements.
