THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 30, 2008.

Russell Bergeson, 97, formerly of Radcliffe, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Timberland Village in Story City. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Burial was in the Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe. The family received friends at the Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe. on Friday, April 25, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Russell Samuel Bergeson was born on June 12, 1910 in Ellsworth, Iowa. He was the son of Samuel and Louvina (Bauge) Bergeson.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School and attended the University of Iowa and Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa. While at U of I, he played in the marching and concert bands.

On December 16, 1933, he married Christine Larson at her parents' farmhouse west of Jewell, Iowa. After their marriage, they moved to a farm two miles west of Radcliffe, Iowa. He fed livestock, farmed and took pride in having things done right. They remained on the farm until 2003, at which time, they moved to Timberland Village in Story City, Iowa.

In early years, Russ was director of the summer bands and played in the 4-H Band at the livestock shows in Chicago, Illinois. Russ was an active member at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, serving on planning and building committees for the present church, as well as, a trustee and choir director for many years.

Russell passed away peacefully at his apartment in Timberland Village on Wednesday, April 23, 2008.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his two sons, James and his wife Helen Bergeson and Jerald Bergeson all of Radcliffe, Iowa; one daughter Rosemary Hendrickson of Portland, Oregon; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Christine of 71 years, daughter-in-law Marcia Bergeson and two brothers, Walter and Howard Bergeson.
