Oct. 8, 1925-May 1, 2008

Emory Earl Cox, 82, of Ames, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 1. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames, with a Masonic service at 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service.

Emory Earl Cox was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Marshalltown, the son of Emory Fredrick Cox and Metha Pearl Roberson. He was a graduate of Marshalltown High School and served 2 1/2 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Most of his working career, he was a buyer for plumbing and heating wholesale companies. He retired from True Value Hardware in 1993 and moved to Bella Vista, Ark., for 15 years, recently moving back to Iowa.

He was a 32 degree Mason and past master of Southgate Masonic Lodge 647 and Moingona Lodge 633 in Des Moines; past patron DeNova Chapter O.E.S., Des Moines; and Bentonville Chapter 295, Bentonville, Ark.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; two sons, David E. Cox and his wife, Elizabeth, of Ames, and Kenneth D. Cox and his wife, Sally, of Coppell, Texas; one daughter, Marie Runyon and her husband, Ernie, of North Richland Hills, Texas; seven grandchildren, Melissa Egeland, Nicholas Runyon, Keith Runyon, Pamela Jensen, Melanie Cox, Michael Cox and Jarrod Cox; and two great-grandsons, Caleb Jensen and Gavin Egeland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mary Greeley Foundation, Israel Family Hospice House, 1111 Duff Ave., Ames, IA, 50010.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
