THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, April 20, 2008.

Veletta Arlene (McAtee) Poush, 80, of Nevada died Saturday, April 19, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St. in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.

Veletta was born Jan. 9, 1928, in rural Nevada to Arlo E. and Bessie (Larson) McAtee. She attended North Grant and Nevada schools. On March 31, 1946, she married Gene G. Poush at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, where Veletta was baptized and confirmed. She worked for Donnelley Marketing for 30 years. After retirement, she was employed at K-mart in Ames. She was a lifetime member of Memorial Lutheran, served on the church council for four years, Alter Guild chairman for 21 years, and member of Esther circle.

Veletta is survived by her husband, Gene Poush; one son, Daniel G. Poush, both of Nevada; two sisters, Jeannie (Darrell) Starbuck, of Ames, and Judy Rasmussen, of Grand Island, Neb., three grandchildren, Stacey Poush, of Granger, Shelby Poush, of Bella Vista, Ark., and Justin G. Sage (Toni), of Fortuna, Calif., one great-granddaughter Taylor Lynn Witten, of Bella Vista, Ark.; and three step-great granddaughters, Kelsie, Kaitlyn, and Kaci, of Fortuna, Calif.

Veletta was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Diana Lynn Sage, on March 23, 1988; a granddaughter, Tia Lynn Poush, in 1976; her brother, Darrell D. McAtee, in 1990; and two sisters, Beverly Boyd and Nancy Haas, on May 10, 2007.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 22, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services, 708 Fifth St. in Nevada.

Memorials may be directed to Memorial Lutheran Church, Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Bliss Cancer Center or Amanda the Panda in Des Moines.
