THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, April 4, 2008.

Oct. 17, 1940-April 3, 2008

Phyllis Diann Stanfel, 67, of Ankeny and formerly of Maxwell, died Thursday, April 3, at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, at the Maxwell Christian Church. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Phyllis Diann Stanfel was born Oct. 17, 1940, on a farm near Mingo, the daughter of Marion E. and Nadine B. (Jones) Mullihan. She graduated from Mingo High School. Phyllis married Don D. Stanfel Feb. 12, 1962, at Ft. Sill, Okla. They made their home in Maxwell until moving to Ankeny in 2004. Phyllis worked for FSA and USDA in Nevada until retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Maxwell Christian Church, the Ankeny Square Dancing Club and the Nevada Whirlers. She enjoyed Swedish weaving. Phyllis loved and adored her family and grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Don, of Ankeny; a son and daughter-in-law, Marion and Kelli Stanfel, of Roscoe, Ill.; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Tim Mason, of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Kara Wilson, Josh Wilson, Brittney Stanfel, and Jeremy Harkin; and two brothers, Ted Mullihan and Chad Mullihan, both of Collins.

Preceding Phyllis in death were her parents; a brother, Max Mullihan; and a sister, Marlene Cole.

Memorials may be made to the Taylor Hospice House, 3401 E. Douglas Ave., Des Moines, IA, 50317.

The Bacon Funeral Home of Maxwell is handling arrangements.
