Raymond D. Link, age 82, of Newton, formerly of Maxwell, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton. Services were held this Friday, March 14, at the Maxwell United Methodist Church.

Raymond was born February 14, 1926 in rural Maxwell, Iowa to Albert and Kathryn (Kiefer) Link. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On February 5, 1950 he was united in marriage with Patricia Palmer in Newton, Iowa. They made their home in Collins and Mingo before returning to Maxwell. Raymond was a farmer for 57 years. He was an active member of the Peoria United Methodist Church, VFW Post 8174, American Legion Post 0249, Farm Bureau, Ira Grange, and the Heartland COOP. Raymond enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He also loved attending his children and grandchildren's activities and was a supporter of 4-H and FFA. Raymond also looked forward to his yearly reunions of the USS Latimer, which he was the host of this last October in Des Moines.

Raymond is survived by his son, Dennis (Sally) Link of Ankeny, Iowa; 3 daughters, Judy (Clyde) Grey of Greene, Iowa, Vicky Link of Boone, Iowa, and Kris (Craig) Weston of Newton, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Ralph (Alvina) Link of Maxwell, 2 sisters, Betty Enfidle and Lucille (Loren) Eatwell, both of Maxwell, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia in 2004; 5 brothers, and 2 sisters.
