Loren N. Westhoff, 73, of Salem, S.D., died Monday, March 24, at the Avera Brady Nursing Home in Mitchell, S.D. Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 27, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation began at 9 a.m. today at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem, with a rosary to begin at 3 p.m. and scripture service at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home.
Loren N. Westhoff, was born June 1, 1934, in Salem, S.D., the son of William and Pauline (Bies) Westhoff. He grew up in the Salem area, and after attending school through eighth grade, he started helping his father on the farm. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1956-58. While in the service he completed his GED. Upon his discharge, he went to work for Tony's Welding and Repair, later to become Feterl Manufacturing. He was the plant superintendent and worked there until he retired in 1999.
He married Bert Breneman Jan. 16, 1960. He married June Stern Allen June 10, 1975. He enjoyed doing all kinds of repair work, be it wood or metal. He especially liked to work on old gas engines. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Salem.
He is survived by two sons, Denny Allen, of Brandon, S.D., and Billy Westhoff, of Salem, S.D.; six daughters, Lory (Larry) Johansen, of Valley Springs, S.D., Cindy (John) Hansen, of Ames, Rhonda (Steve) Ramsdell, of Piedmont, S.D., Connie (Gary) Pearson, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kerry (Bill) Selland, of Salem, S.D., and Sally (Russell) Hines, of Mitchell, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Willie, of Salem, S.D., and Richard (Lawana), of Sioux Falls, S.D.
