Feb. 29, 1928-March 18, 2008

Zona McCormick, 80, of Boone and formerly of Ogden, died Tuesday, March 18, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, in the chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, with the Rev. Gordon Lundberg officiating. A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Our Saviour's Lutheran Cemetery in Rembrandt. Burial will follow the service.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the chapel of Eastern Star Masonic Home.

Zona McCormick was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Canton, S.D., the daughter of Charles and Olive (Gruber) Ekle. She graduated from Canton High School. On May 27, 1950, she married C.B. "Bud" McCormick in Canton. The couple lived in Canton, Windom, Minn., Rembrandt and Ogden.

She attended Des Moines Area Community College in Boone. From 1978 to 1998, she worked as receptionist and secretary at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, retiring in 1998. She enjoyed scrapbooking, cooking and traveling to Spain, Portugal, Mexico and the Bahamas. In earlier years, the couple enjoyed playing bridge.

She is survived by her husband, C.B. "Bud," of Boone; one son, Douglas McCormick and wife, Melissa, of Ames; one daughter, Dianna Baker and husband, Sean, of Camarillo, Calif.; one brother, Charles Ekle and wife, Carol, of Lyle, Minn.; two sisters, Angeline Dolzel, of Edmonton, Wash., and Florence Albert and husband, Kenny, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; five grandchildren, Austin, Zoe and MacKenzie Baker, and Morgan and Madelon McCormick. She also is survived by two brothers-in-law, Chuck Dunlap, of Michigan, and Jerold McCormick, of California; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Stensland, of South Dakota, and Donna McCormick, of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Lee McCormick; one brother, Arnie Ekle; two sisters, Ardes Groon and Charlotte Monrad; and four brothers-in-law, Kenny Kraft, Orville Stensland, Herbert Groon and Donald Monrad.

Memorials may be given to the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
