Sept. 8, 1921-March 17, 2008

Ethel Franklin completed her life Monday, March 17, after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 20, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service Friday.

Ethel Franklin was born Sept. 8, 1921, near Huxley, to Clifford and Alma (Ritland) Myers. She married Paul Franklin Feb. 8, 1946, after his return from World War II. She lived on the farm where she and Paul moved after their marriage until the day of her death.

She was very proud of her family. She enjoyed life and spending time with her many friends who would stop by for coffee. She always was ready to help them out on a moment's notice. She enjoyed working on the farm, especially mowing the yard. She was a great cook.

She will be missed by two daughters, Linda Franklin, of Cambridge, and Diane (Rick) Miles, of Springfield, Ill.; two grandsons, Paul Miles and his fianc�e, Nathalie Morasch, of Champaign, Ill., and Jason Miles, of Springfield, Ill.; one brother, Gerald (Helen) Myers, of Westlake Village, Calif.; two sisters, Grace Myers, of Ames, and Maxine Switzer, of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; and one brother, Ron Myers.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 233, Walnut Grove Cemetery Board and Birthday Club.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Susan B. Kommen Foundation or Bliss Cancer Center.
