Menora Cornet (Johnson) Durby, 94, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral Services were held Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bethany Manor. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, Iowa.
Menora Cornet (Johnson) Durby was the first born child of John M. and Ellen (Dalva) Johnson, on June 21, 1913, at Jewell, Iowa. At the age of eleven she moved with her family to Randall, Iowa, where she was confirmed. Menora graduated from High School in 1932. She married Laurence Durby in Feb. 2, 1934. Menora was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, of rural Jewell for 68 years. She taught Sunday school, Luther League and LDR Sponsor, and held many offices in the ALCW. She was also a charter member of the C.I.C. Club.
Those left to mourn her passing are her daughter Janet Handeland and husband Gary; her grandchildren, Ann Marie Ringstad (Scott), Scott Enderson, Tony Diamond, Faith Lorenzini (Rick), Nina Betts (Bill), , Robin Carnes, Nicholas Diamond (Malinda); great-grandchildren, Brett Ringstad, Matthew Ringstad, Tanner Enderson, Ross Enderson, Noele Porlas, Natasha Porlas, Brianna Diamond, Vito Lorenzini, Isabella Lorenzini, Austin Carnes, Hana Diamond, and Ella Diamond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laurence; daughter, Ella May Diamond; sons-in-law, Gus Diamond, Harold Enderson; great-grandson Jared Ringstad; two brothers, Oliver and Stanley Johnson; and two sisters, Betty Ann Sansgaard and Judith Jackson.
Menora was full of life and enjoyed sharing it with her family and friends! She will be lovingly missed by all who knew her!
Memorials may be designated to Bethany Manor.
Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City was entrusted with the arrangements.
