THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, March 7, 2008.

Helen Clare (Thomas) Mott, 93, died Friday, March 7, at Northcrest Retirement Community. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, with a visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time, at Northcrest Retirement Community. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Helen Mott was born Feb. 19, 1915, in Newcastle, Neb., the fourth child of Charles and Charlotte (Colwell) Thomas. She graduated from Newcastle High School and spent five years teaching in one-room country schools in Dixon County, Neb.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ames and had been an active member of the Women's Society for many years. She was a member of P.E.O. chapter AA. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and playing Bridge with friends. She also spent lots of time knitting and crocheting. She was a homemaker and spent time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She married Lawrence O. Mott, D.V.M., June 17, 1936. They spent their first year together in Oklahoma. From there, they spent time in the Washington, D.C., area and one year in Mexico City before settling in Ames in 1961. Dr. Mott died in 1975.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn L. (Bruce R.) Pugh, of Williamsburg, Va., Marilyn S. (Theodore) Enoka, of North Pole, Alaska, and Margaret E. (Michael J.) Miller, of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Arel Armstrong and Marguerite Armstrong; and two brothers, Duane Thomas and Richard Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ames, the Congregational United Church of Christ of Newcastle, Neb., Northcrest Retirement Community of Ames or Homeward Hospice of Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Stevens Memorial Chapel and Cremation Service is entrusted with her services.

A public viewing and visitation for Helen Clare (Thomas) Mott will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
