THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, February 20, 2008.

Albert Dean Borton, 73, of Roland, passed away at his home on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 after suffering a stroke three years ago and losing an on-going battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial followed at the Roland Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday Feb. 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bergen.

Albert Borton was born Dec. 2, 1934 to Vern and Opal (Smith) Borton in Collins Iowa. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1954. Albert and Ruby Hall were married Oct. 19, 1955 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. He worked first for a local farmer in the area and became the custodian, bus driver, and mechanic for the Roland School District. He completed training required and soon became the head custodian in the building now known as the Roland-Story Middle School. Albert worked there for 50 years.

In addition to working hard both at the school and on his house and garage, he was of great assistance to his son on weekends. In his spare time he enjoyed an occasional nap, usually while watching his beloved races. Albert enjoyed spending the weekends with his family and watching Jessica year-round in all of her sporting activities. Albert often helped Jessica practice and they enjoyed taking bicycle rides around town. He enjoyed talking to his grandson, Beau, about sports and his plans for the future. He also loved to joke with everyone.

Albert and Ruby were married for over 52 years and their union brought forth three children.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Roland; his son, Steve (Robin) Borton of Roland; his brother Thomas Boston of New London, Iowa; his sister, Lillian Heimes of LeGrand, Iowa; his grandson Beau Boston of Tallahassee, Florida; his granddaughter, Jessica Borton of Roland; his brother-in-law, Clarence Borton of Marshalltown, Iowa; and his mother-in-law, Arlene Holts of Nashua, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Larry Borton and Jerry Borton; and one sister Viola Christiansen.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Roland has been entrusted with the arrangements.
