Glen Espeland (1917-2008)

THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, February 20, 2008.

A funeral was held Saturday Feb. 9, 2008 at Kern Park Christian Church in Portland, Oregon, for Glen Espeland. He broke his hip in a fall at his home at 1433 S.E. 30th Ave Portland, Oregon, 98233. Surgery went well but the fifth day he had pneumonia and passed away with his family and loved ones by his side.

Glen was born in Randall, Iowa in Sept. 15 1917. He graduated from Randall High School. He had many friends from when he was small, until he left Randall in 1951.

Glen liked music and played in a band. He also enjoyed flowers, especially roses. He was assistant manager in the Grain Elevator in Randall.

He was a gentle, gentleman, liked by everyone. He was a person who liked to tease, and have fun.

Glen married Norma Fatland in 1943. In 1951 they moved to Portland, Oregon. He worked for Sperry Hutchinson Green Stamps in mail order for 22 years after Sperry Hutchinson moved to Chicago. He then worked for Don Rasmussen Mercedes Benz.

Glen is survived by his wife, Norma; son, Daryl L. Espeland; daughter, Susan O'Neill, six granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren with one on the way, many nieces and nephews, and cousin, Mildred Rindel.
