THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, February 23, 2008.

Jane Axtell, 77, of Ames, died Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Israel Family Hospice House. A gathering of friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ames. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, also at Northminster Presbyterian.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Jane J. Axtell died Thursday, Feb. 21, in Ames, of complications from congestive heart failure. It was Jane's wish to be cremated. Family will receive friends and family from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ames. A memorial service and reception will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25 at Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Jane was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Galesburg, Ill., the fourth of four children of Cecil and Dorothy Jordan. Jane lived in Galesburg where she graduated high school in 1949 and graduated from the University of Nebraska where she received her bachelor's degree in Education in 1953. She married Richard Dale Axtell in June of 1953 and moved to Sidney, Neb. They moved to Ames in 1957, where they opened a photography and gift shop. She remained in Ames the rest of her life raising four children.

Jane loved to play golf, and was very competitive in her bridge club. Even though Jane loved to be on the golf course, she also enjoyed watching the Nebraska Huskers and Iowa State Cyclone basketball and football games. In her spare time, she loved to knit or duplicate stitch and was an avid reader of fiction.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Axtell, Julie (Craig) Boyle, Nancy (Duwayne) Fink; son, Richard Axtell (Diane Knoot); as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard, and three brothers.

Memorial contributions (noted in the memory of Jane Axtell) may be made to either American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Adams Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
