THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, February 17, 2008.
Aug. 31, 1920-Feb. 13, 2008
Dorothy Lucille Heise was born in Lincoln, Neb., on Aug. 31, 1920, to Clarence and Vivian Trigg. She grew up in Lincoln with her parents and sister, Lynn, whom she dearly loved. She attended Lincoln High School and ultimately the University of Nebraska where she became a lifelong "Big Red" fan. While in college, she studied French and communications and very much enjoyed writing copy for WOW-AM radio. It was also in college that she met her lifelong companion, Robert H. Heise Sr., who was a sophomore in medical school at the time. They were married on Feb. 7, 1943. The two of them with their son, Robert H. Heise II, moved to Story City in 1950 where Dr. Heise established his medical practice. Their initial office was in their home and for years she was the office secretary, clinical assistant and generally jack of all trades until their new office was built.
They served the Story City community for more than 45 years.
They had a wonderful life, married more than 50 years, enjoyed extensive traveling, dogs, scrabble, fishing and their beloved home on Lake Pomme de Terre in Missouri. They were inseparable until Robert H. Heise Sr.'s death on Sept. 3, 1993. Following his death, she continued to be active in the community, enjoyed her lifelong friends and traveled with family. She moved into Timberland Village in Story City where she made good friends until the horrible ravages of Alzheimer's began taking its toll. She then moved to a wonderful facility, Prairie Meadows Senior Living, in Kasson, Minn., until January 2006, where she resided until the afternoon of her death on Feb. 13.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will follow in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. at the church.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert H. Heise Jr., and his wife, Ann, from Rochester, Minn.; grandsons Robert, his wife, Julie, and their children Madison and Alexa, of Olathe, Kan.; Richard, and his wife, Chris and their children, Matthew, Samuel, Anna and Jessica, presently living in Sydney, Australia; Ryan, and his wife, Erica, and their children, Ainsley, Cooper, Bodhe from Houston; and granddaughter, Heather, and her daughter, Atalaya, of Rochester, Minn.
We all miss you terribly and will always remember your uncompromising love and devotion.
