Roy was born June 28, 1941, in Storm Lake, the son of Vern and Colette (Green) Wiseman of Early. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Early High School in 1959. Roy entered the U.S. Army and served abroad in Europe from 1961-1964. He then returned to Early and worked for a short time in the Wiseman family grocery store before becoming a self-employed carpenter.

On April 18, 1966, Roy was united in marriage Kathryn Douglas at Sacred Heart in Early. To this union four children were born, David, Dawn, Doug and DeLynn.

Roy was well known for his meticulous detailed work, and later concentrated on finish carpentry. He then worked for the Early Builders from 1989-2003 at which time he retired. He then started working part-time for Farmers Coop in Sac City.

Roy loved the game of golf, completing the daily crossword puzzle, Sudoko, and jigsaw puzzles. Every year, Roy and Kathy had an annual open house to display their crafts of candles, baked goodies and painted sweatshirts. Roy spent many hours researching and perfecting the art of candle making. He was very proud of the various aromas and types of candles that he could offer and aimed to please. Roy cherished his 12 grandchildren and later went on to rename his candles "Grandpa's Candles".
