John G. Michaelson, 79, of Story City, died March 13, 2007 near his acreage in rural Story City. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City on Monday, March 19. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Story County Sheriff's Department Rescue Unit or Story City Trees Forever.
John was born April 3, 1927 in Roland to John E. and Gladys (Durby) Michaelson. He graduated from Story City High School in 1945 and entered the US Navy. After his discharge he attended Wartburg College. He worked at the Iowa Department of Transportation for 30 years, retiring at an early age to enjoy his true loves, his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. John was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Trees Forever and Story City American Legion.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie of Story City; two daughters, Jane (Claude) Hovick of Roland and Jacki Foley of Ames; two granddaughters, Wendy (Sean) Williams of Cedar Rapids and Katie Blair of West Des Moines; and three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan and Seth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Christopher Hovick and a brother, Herb Michaelson.
