Marshall Edwin Hurst, 89, of Nevada, died on Friday, Feb. 1, at Story County Long Term Care.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services, 708 Fifth St., Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the Story Memorial Gardens, Ames.

Marshall was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Spirit Lake, to Charles E. and Ida M. (White) Hurst. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 9, 1942, Marshall married Minnie Rainey at Ft. Snelling Chapel, Minn.. He was a meat cutter. Marshall retired in 1982 as a security guard at Iowa State University. He was a member of the William F. Ball American Legion Post 48 in Nevada. Marshall loved watching football, being with children, fishing and listening to western music.

Marshall is survived by a daughter, Loma Hurst, Nevada, and a special No. 1 nephew, Tom Warren, of Ames.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Minnie, on Oct. 18, 1999; a sister; and 11 brothers.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 5, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services, Nevada.

Memorials may be given in honor of Marshall for contributions for the blind or Story County Long Term Care, Nevada.
