July 17, 1933-Jan. 20, 2008

Richard Lee Keech, 74, of Story City, died Sunday, Jan. 20, at his home after experiencing COPD for three years and a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Burial will be in Story City Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City.

Richard Lee Keech was born July 17, 1933, in Milnor N.D., the son of Claude and Gertrude (Hopkins) Keech. He married Karen Ferguson June 1, 1958, in Boone. He lived and farmed for Louie A. and Bessie Sinn for more than 57 years.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, past master of Kohinoor Lodge No. 576 A.F.&A.M., also formerly a member of White Shrine, past patron of Eastern Star and a 32 Degree Mason in the York Rite. He was president of the Story City Saddle Club for many years. He enjoyed showing horses, playing cards, computer solitaire, dancing, Iowa State women's basketball, every event his grandchildren were involved with and spending time with family and friends.

He was a veteran.

He and his son, Kent, had a custom baling business for the past 15 years. While farming, he had a cow calf herd and enjoyed as a hobby showing quarter horses, something that was passed onto his daughter and granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; one daughter, Julie Kay Keech; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Diana (Ness) Keech and Kent and Karen (Auchstetter) Keech; two very special grandchildren, Levi and Mariah; and his mom, Bessie Sinn, all of Story City. He also is survived by one sister, Sandy (Leonard Jr.) Madden, of Boone; and nieces and nephews.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
