NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, January 17, 2008.

Phyllis Marie (Kinyon) Malmin, 79, of Fountain, Colo., passed away on Dec. 2, 2007 at the Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, at 7:30 p.m., from age-related complications.

She requested that her body be donated to The Science Care Anatomical School of Aurora and then her ashes will be returned to her family. No services are planned at this time.

"Mom" was born in Ames on Oct. 8, 1928 to William Yates and Lennis Margaret (Guess) Kinyon. She began life on their farm with her three other sisters, Evelyn, Pauline and Janet. She was a beautiful, spirited girl who knew God and valued others.

Phyllis graduated in 1947 from Nevada High School.

She was married on July 25, 1948 in Nevada to Kerner Selmer Malmin, a handsome, friendly young man, who was the son of Reverend Lewis and Matilda Malmin.

She was preceded in passing by her parents; infant son, Sammy; and her husband.

She is survived in life by her sisters and her six children, Sam, Deborah, Claudia, Yates, Robert and Amy; along with two sons-in-law; and her four grandchildren, Christopher, Kerner, Shawn and Melissa; also nine great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

Phyllis was a talented woman and made wonderful quilts, embroidery and crochet works.

Mom loved running the kitchen at Fountain Valley Senior Center. She was very caring, giving, loving, nurturing and had a great sense of humor. She will be well remembered and loved dearly by so many.
