Bud Chaldy, 75, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, in Tucson, Ariz.

He was born was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Hot Springs, S.D. His radio news broadcasting career began at KXGN in Glendive, Mont., in 1955. In 1960, his career took him to Ottumwa, where he worked at KBIZ radio. When KBIZ radio joined forces with KTVO television, Bud was appointed news director of both. He moved to Ames in 1970, where he served as news director at KASI radio until 1982. In 1976, Bud received the Jack Shelley Award, the Iowa Broadcasters News Association's highest honor. He was known for his professional integrity when reporting the news and was a respected member of each community where he lived.

After 1982, Bud lived in Fairmont, Minn.; Marquette, Mich.; and finally settled in Tucson, Ariz., in 1994.

Broadcasting the "play-by-play" for Ottumwa High School, Walsh High School, and Ames High School sports was the highlight of his life. He enjoyed his interaction with the students immensely and never forgot those whose lives he touched. When he moved to Tucson, he was thrilled to find a former Ottumwa High School athlete as a physician.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Tucson, Ariz.; brother, Fred Chaldy, of Oceanside, Calif.; daughters, Tina Gerber and Tracy Hanson, of Bakersfield, Calif.; sons-in-law, James Gerber and John Hanson, of Bakersfield, Calif.; granddaughters, Heather Gerber, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Amy Gerber, of Bakersfield, Calif.; and grandsons, Justin Gerber and Christian Hanson, of Bakersfield, Calif.

Bud was preceded in death by his father, Fred Chaldy; mother, Sammy Lane Havery; and infant daughter, Terrie Rae Chaldy.

Bud was much loved by his family and friends and will be missed every day of our lives.
