THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 21, 2005.

Hazel G. Okland, 86, of Story City died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 at Stratford Care Center in Stratford. Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 15 at 11 am. at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. Burial was in the Mount Olive Cemetery near Randall. Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 14 after 3 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Hazel G. Okland was born Jan. 18, 1919 near Story City to Nels and Helen (Charlson) Nelson. She graduated from Story City High School in 1937. On July 25, 1939 she was united in marriage with Arthur L. Okland in Chillicothe, Missouri.

Hazel lived in the Story and Hamilton County area all her life, was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall where she was involved with quilting and Circle; volunteered at South Hamilton Schools and Bethany Manor; was a member of the Farm Bureau and Neighborhood Birthday Club; and, was famous for her butterhorn rolls.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur of Story City; two daughters, Vivian (Gordon) Gossel of Story City and Helen (Thomas) Ellwood of Ellsworth; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth (Ruth) Nelson and Charles Nelson.
