THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 15, 2006.

Bonnie Rae Ahrens, age 71, of 120-1st Street #48 in Story City, died March 11, 2006 at her home. Her body has been cremated and graveside services were held Tuesday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lawn Hill Cemetery near Stanhope. Burial of her cremains followed the service.

Bonnie was born June 24, 1934 in Granite Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Earl and Minnie (Neuman) Sorenson. She attended Stanhope Elementary Schools and graduated from Stanhope High School. On Nov. 11, 1970, she was united in marriage with Lawrence "Dick" Ahrens at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

From 1965 to 1967, she was a saleswoman for J.C. Penney's in Ames and also an operator for Bell Telephone Company in Stanhope. She worked at the Jewell Record newspaper from 1968 to 1969. Bonnie was also employed at Mode O Day and the Tee Pee in Ames from 1978 to 1982. From 1984 to 1994, Bonnie had a successful home business raising and selling chickens, homegrown popcorn, and angel food cakes while her husband Dick farmed and drove trucks for Fareway.

She enjoyed many hobbies including building and furnishing miniature doll houses, doing puzzles and crossword puzzles, and needlepoint. One of her most extraordinary pieces was a sequined jacket that she hand-beaded taking over 1000 hours to complete. Bonnie also enjoyed the slot machines at Prairie Meadows and had much success with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, and an infant daughter, Riqui Ann.
She is survived by four sons, Mike Feaker of Ames, Denny Feaker of Phoenix, Arizona, Doc Feaker and fiance Carla Fuhs of Boone, and Mark Feaker and wife Erin; 11 grandchildren, Jody Flores and husband Eddie, Jenny Feaker, Jayson Feaker and wife Kelly, Mason Feaker, Ayla Feaker, Harrison Feaker, Ryan Murray, Alex Feaker, Jeff Feaker, Keith Leytham, and Kreg Leytham; and three great-grandchildren, Kayla and Sierra Flores and Hallee Feaker.

Memorials may be given to the Israel Family Hospice House or the Bliss Cancer Center, both of Ames.

There was no visitation. Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone was in charge of the arrangements.
