Ronald D. Gardner, 80, of Story City and Kelley, died Monday, Dec. 10, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Ronald D. Gardner was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Chickasaw County, to Fred and Oma (Harsha) Gardner. He was a tank truck driver for Campbell Oil and Mel Bell Oil Company for 35 years. He married Marie Latham Aug. 27, 1948. She died in 1985. Three children were born to this marriage, Linda (Phil) Janke, of Randleman, N.C., Bruce (Connie) Gardner, of Madrid, and Rick Gardner, of Biloxi, Miss.
He moved from Kelley to Story City when he married Lillian Lee June 29, 2002.
In addition to his three children and his wife, Lillian, four stepchildren survive him, Larry (Darlene) Sunnes, of Newton, Diane (John) Miller, of Ames, Janet (Bruce) Henrichs, of Story City, and Linda (John) Fredericksen, of Story City. He also is survived by two brothers, Charles (Mary Jane) Gardner, of Asheville, N.C., and Duane (Judy) Gardner, of Dodge City, Kan.; three sisters, Phylis (Kenny) Watson, of Boone, Shirley (Milo) Bylund, of Audubon, and Norma Jean Jacobson, of California; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; eight step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marie; and one grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be designated to Bethany Lutheran Church, Aberdeen Christian Worship Hour or Israel Family Hospice House.
