TRAGIC DEATH OF JOHN SHENKLE

KILLED IN AUTOMOBILE COLLISION EARLY SUNDAY MORNING; TWO OTHERS INJURED

John Shenkle, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Shenkle, a senior in the school of pharmacy at the State University of Iowa, met a tragic death early Sunday morning in an automobile collision on the Lincoln highway on the lower curve of Four Mile hill west of Marshalltown.

The car in which he was riding was driven by Harlan Mains of Colo. Mains and the other occupant of the car, Harley Reimenschneider of State Center, were cut by glass and otherwise injured, although not seriously.

The only occupant of the other car was George Adamson of Marshalltown, who escaped uninjured, but his car, a Ford roadster, was demolished.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight, the three young men being on their way home from Marshalltown, where they had spent the evening. In rounding a curve on the hill their car swerved and struck the Adamson car which was coming toward them, both cars being thrown against the guard rail.

Passing motorists took the young men to St. Thomas hospital at Marshalltown, but Shenkle died before they reached there.

Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:30 from the Collins Church of Christ, and interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.

Deceased was a graduate of the Colo High school with the class of '25 and would have graduated this year from the State University of Iowa. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi fraternity.

Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Miss Irene, who is teaching to the Indianola schools.

The community grieves in his untimely death, and the heartfelt sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved family.
