MRS JULIA HARRYMAN DIES AT THE AGE OF 105

CAME TO INDIANA WITH HER PARENTS WHEN A CHILD

SETTLED NEAR IRVINGTON

MOORESVILLE, Ind. December 6 [1919]

Mrs. Julia Shearer Harryman, who was 105 years old October 24, died here yesterday evening at the home of Charles Harryman, her son. She was born in Brown county, Ohio. October 24, 1814, or two years before Indiana became a state.

With Andrew and Madeline [sic Magdelena] Shearer, her parents, Mrs. Harryman came to this region when quite young, the family settling near the present site of Irvington and members of the family are still living in that vicinity. She was married to John Harryman in 1839 and lived in Indianapolis several years, often telling in recent times, of making soap in Washington street. Mrs. Harryman was a neighbor and close friend of Govenor and Mrs. Noble, frequently exchanging cookery with Mrs. Noble.

After coming to Morgan county, Mr. and Mrs. Harryman were active in establishing schools and in the interests of the Mt. Olive Methodist Episcopal church, east of Mooresville. She had been a member of the Methodist church since she was thirteen years old, uniting with the denomination at old Bethel in Marion county. for the greater part of her life, she was connected with the Mt. Olive church, and her home, except for a few years spent in Bloomington while her children were in Indiana University, has been in that vicinity.

Mr. Harryman was accidentally killed more than twenty five years ago when they moved here. Mr. and Mrs. Harryman had seven children, one son loosing his life in the civil war. Those who survive are Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Bloxam, wife of Judge Bloxam, of Pratt, Kans.; Mrs. Vincent Williams and Alfred and Charles Harrman [sic Harryman] of Mooresville. There are a number of the fifth generation of the family, most of them living in Kansas.

The burial will be at Mt. Olive cemetary, where her husband, son and many friends of former days are buried.
