DEATH OF MRS. ELMER BENCE
COLLINS GAZETTE 4 Dec 1930

The community was again saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Elmer Bence, 58 years old, which occurred at her home two miles east of Collins at 6:30 Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, following an illness of several weeks, brought on my a stroke which she suffered recently.

Mrs. Bence is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. S. K. Ozmun; one sister, Mrs. Bradford Stevens of Collins; two brothers, Chas. Shearer of Cumberland and Geo. Shearer of McCallsburg.

Funeral seervices will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Collins United Brethren church, and interment in Evergreen cemetery.

MRS. ELMER BENCE RITES HELD FRIDAY

Sorrowing relatives, friends and neighbors filled to overflowing the Collins United Brethren church last Friday afternoon, when they came to pay their last earthly respects to one who was loved and esteemed by all who knew her - - Mrs. Elmer Bence.

OBITUARY

Jennie Bence, the second child of E. W.and Eliza Shearer, was born May 4, 1873, and departed this life, at her home two miles east of Collins, November 25, 1930, at the age of 57 years 6 months and 21 days.

After several weeks of illness, although all was done that loving hands could do, she passed on to her eternal reward.

She was united in marriage December 29, 1895 to Elmer Bence, and to this union was born one daughter, Mildred.

Sister Bence was converted, and united with the Willow Creek United Brethren church about forty-two years ago. Afterwards her membership was transferred to the Collins U.B. church of which church she was an active member until her death.

She will be greatly missed by all.

She was a member of the Eastern Sr, Collins Chapter, No. 134.

Mrs. Bence's entire life was spent in the vicinity of Collins. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances.

Her father having preceded her in death in July, she leaves to mourn her loss her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Ozmun; one sister, Mrs. Edith Stevens, Collins, Iowa; two brothers, George Shearer of McCallsburg, Iowa, and Charles Shearer of Cumberland, Iowa; and a niece, Mrs. Florence Good of Rhodes, Iowa, who was a member of the Shearer home from infancy and always seemed like a sister to her; several other nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral seervices were held from the United Brethern church in Collins, Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Z. Hougham, and her Eastern Star sisters,. Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.
